Peas, Peas, Everywhere &Meeting Slither

When the Kindergarteners arrived at school today their sand table was filled with dried peas instead of sand. They had fun as they poured and measured, scooped and filled different sized containers and discovered which held the most, more and the least. The peas also were hiding some hidden treasures that the students enjoyed digging out.

The Kindergarten class also met Slither the Snake --- who helps us with our Jolly Phonics program and especially the letter S s sound. Please help your child go on a letter s hunt around your home and find as many S's that they can.

Learning with Pumpkins

We have started exploring and learning using pumpkins. We have been reading many stories about pumpkins and how they grow. We have examined different kinds and sizes of pumpkins and looked at what is inside.

Leaf Creations

Today we read a story called Leaf Man. It was fun to see how many different pictures the illustrator had created out of leaves. After the story we got to make our very own picture using the leaves we had collected last day.

Going on a Leaf Hunt

After reading a story about Fall and leaves on Tuesday we went on a Leaf hunt. It was fun finding many different kinds and sizes of leaves.
We collected them in brown paper bags and we will be making something with them next day.

Froot Loop Detectives

Sorting our Froot Loops by color!

More Sorting Fun

Its Fall

We were very busy in Kindergarten today. We explored various leaves and found ways to sort them. We are learning about sorting and patterns. Help your child look for ways to sort and find patterns at home and outdoors.

We sorted leaves, ourselves and many small objects and toys. Then we had a call from the
makers of Fruit Loops and they wanted us to help them be detectives. They needed to know which color of fruit loops was the most common. We each sorted a baggie of froot loops, determined which had color we had the most of and then we got to eat them for snack!

Looks like it will be a nice weekend. Enjoy the weather!

Sept. 20th

We are discussing the seasons in Kindergarten. Look for and talk with your child about signs of Fall!

Today the students visited the computer lab in the library. They practiced how to log on and enter a password. The students viewed and listened to a Robert Munsch story on Tumble books.

On Wednesday, Sept. 22 students will be getting their pictures taken by the photographer. Please remember to bring your smiles!

Check out the fun we had with apples! See earlier posts.

Making Apple Prints!

Exploring with Apples

The students had a great time on Thursday exploring with apples.
We tested to see if apples will sink or float and tallied the results.
Then we looked more closely at the different parts of an apple.
We read the story "Let's Go Apple Picking" that shared a recipe for applesauce and showed us how to make apple prints. We washed, cut, cooked, mashed and then ate the applesauce! YUM!

Look at These!

Field Trip

Our field trip to the greenhouse
and pizza hut was a lot of fun today.
The students got to use all their senses;
they touched, felt, smelled and listened.
There were a lot of plants to explore.
We got to feel plants that had
soft fuzzy leaves, some that were spiky and
some that felt rubbery. Many of the plants
smelled very good. We even smelled one
that smelled like chocolate mint! Yummy!
We also got to look at many different kinds
of trees. Some that were like Christmas trees
and did not lose their leaves-even in winter and
many fruit trees; some with little apples on them.

The eggs are hatching!

June 13th

Today when I stopped at the school to check on the eggs
I was greeted by 3 fluffy chicks. They were cheeping and
looking for some food and water. Another egg had holes in
it where another chick was trying to hatch out. By lunch
time we had four little chicks cheeping in the classroom!

Just Buzzing

After reviewing all the letter sounds taken thus far,
the students got to meet Buzz the Bumblebee!
They have been working really hard at remembering
all the letter sounds and we only have a few
left to cover. Keep hunting for those letter sounds
at home too!

Happy Spring to all!

It appears that the Spring weather is here to stay.
We have been busy, busy, busy in Kindergarten.
We have been learning about living things and how
plants and animals are alike and different. We planted
seeds in clear cups and ziploc bags so we could see the
different plant parts as the plant sprouted and grew.
After reading "Jack and the Beanstalk" the students
think maybe some of their beans were magic as they
grow towards the ceiling.
